It?s been a while. And in that time I?ve managed to move me, my family and our stuff back to Europe, and it?s good to be home. Well, I say our stuff ? the majority of it is currently in fact sitting on the docks in Singapore, but I?m assured it?ll be here in the next six weeks or so.
I?m busy trying to sort out a new job, but before I give you the details about that, take a look at this, which is a memo sent to everyone at my old office in Singapore the other day. I think it tells you everything you need to know about Sars, Singapore and the people that inhabit it.
Dear All,
As most of you may be aware, the area outside XXX Medical Clinic was cordoned off during lunchtime today and an ambulance was seen parked along the office tower driveway. Rumours were heard that there was a SARS case in the building.
We have checked with Dr. XXX of XXX Medical Clinic and below are the facts we have obtained from him:
At about 12.30pm today, an employer brought his construction worker to consult Dr. XXX as he found out that his worker has been in contact with 2 persons who had been to the Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre. Dr XXX said that according to the worker, the 2 persons he had been in contact with did not have symptoms of SARS. Dr XXX also said that the worker himself showed no symptoms of SARS. However, he did not want to take any risk and therefore called for an ambulance to bring the worker to TTSH for a chest x-ray.
Attached is an update sent by XXX Medical Clinic for your reference.
While waiting for the ambulance's arrival, our landlord, XXX, cordoned off the area as a precautionary measure. They have also done a thorough cleaning of the office lobby using disinfectant.
Please note that XXX Medical Clinic is open as usual. We will keep everyone posted once we receive any updates on this matter.
Best regards,
Well ? if the doctors are reacting like that, it?s no wonder the panic surrounding this frankly not very scary bug is crippling Singapore?s economy, is it?
